It was completed in 1865 as a courthouse, it was later being used as various government offices due to relocation of the court. In 1989 it was converted into a museum known as Empress Place Museum which served the public for 6 years, before transformed into the present museum.
Function of the old supreme court building in the past :
The Old Supreme Court Building is the former courthouse of the Supreme Court of Singapore, before it moved out of the building and commenced operations in the new building on 20 June 2005. It is built in front of the historical Padang grounds. The building is planned to become an arts and cultural centre in future, with plans to refurbish the building.
Function of the victoria memorial building in the past :
It is located in front of Asian Civilisation Museum, Victorial Theatre was one of the oldest colonial building built in 1862 as the Town Hall. It was a typical British neo-classical architecture which was popular in the 19th century. The Theatre was connected to the nearby Concert Hall (built in 1905) by a clock tower.
